I played high school football and still love watching college games.I just don't care if Pro Football goes on strike!
NFL tickets are way too expensive and the hassle of getting there and out is a real drag. TV coverage gets worse every year and the sports announcers more egotistic and obnoxious. And puhlease get the women away from the microphone. Can the men of this country have at least one thing that is theirs without some bimbo know it all know nothing trying to horn in. The players are all prima donnas, the coaches are too conservative, there is not much sportsmanship and some pretty foul hitting to cripple.
The good news I suppose, is I have a TV again or so I thought. I cuss it out far too frequently. So not having a TV by choice for the last four years, not watching any football up until yesterday, and my observations of HDTV are the topics of this rant.
First Super Bowl 45
Polamalu, Troy for the Steelers played some of the dirtiest football I have ever seen.,One particularly dirty play he was repeatedly hitting a down player with his helmet after the play was dead.He wasn't called for unsportsmanlike conduct The NFL Commissioner should review the tape and bench him for a few games.
I thought the officiating was pretty good except for the call against the Packers after the defensive pass interception touchdown. Fifteen yards for celebrating a defensive touchdown come on. All and all I thought it was a pretty good game.It was not filled with the Pro bowler overly cautious coaches requirement of never get caught making a game losing gamble but then there weren't that many mid field fourth and inch decisions.
For the first time in Superbowl history I didn't think the actual shooting of the game, the actual camera work was that good. I missed a lot of the critical plays, or at least a good shot of them.Perhaps they are depending on the replay button to much.
On my new 19 inch HDTV I couldn't see the field goals and the constant very wide shot left me out of the game.SO a big thumb down to the technical Fox crews.
If you know me, a big thumbs down to Fox Broadcasting across the board. I find any Network that wants to broadcast the likes of Bill Orielly and Glen Beck and then wrap them selves up in the Super Bowl and the over the top Patriotic hype a bit more than disgusting.
It is my firm belief that Rupert Murdoch is out to damage this country for his own greed. Although the Super Bowl is an event bigger than any one man, the days of just blindly accepting these show biz mogul jerks that get the HUGE profits from gaming the system should be OVER. Why should some Aussie profit a nickle from the Super Bowl. Its an American made and played game.
If the NFL wants to be fan friendly, the Super Bowl should be played in either one of the cities that has a team in the game. The idea that during one of the worst winter storms of the year fans to fly close to a two thousand miles round trip is too much.
Which brings me to the pre-show pre-game half time and post show coverage all which sucked canal water.
Nothing but fast talking experts stretching their egos. It would have been better to see well produced segments about how the teams were preparing and the individual reactions of players of making it to the big dance. The fans had no glimpse into any any of the celebrations or activities around the game. Or any of the hard work that went into producing it or setting it up.
With all the planning of the Super Bowl, Dallas Stadium really isnt a very good set for the game. The green of the field was too dark, it didnt seem that well lighted, the broadcast canceled out too much of the real sound of the stadium.
The pregame Other than Christen Aguilara having the guts to sing the National Anthem in a strained A cappella way, totally forgettable. Again it was really badly shot the cameras were in the wrong position and the whole thing was a rushed jumble of awkwardness.
I for one think the game should be played during the day. I simply dont care about the overblown half time schizophrenic half time blunder busts.
The game itself. Pretty good both quarterbacks have really good strong, accurate arms. There weren't any stellar runs, no trick plays, some swarming sacks, a couple of shifts in momentum, but nothing really to write home about.
The half time show an almost total flop except for the schizophrenic energy. The Black Eyed Peas were way over thier heads, with zero musicality. The light up costumes were cool but the whole show sounded awful, the mikes didn't work, and why would you bother flying in performers from the ceiling when you could only see them for the last twenty feet,? The only thing remember-able about it was Ushers flying leap down a level into full splits, that had to hurt.
ThenI AM OVER Rap and HIP HOP and the whole gangsta stupid black takeover of the music industry. Enough, !!!!!!! Disco died and its way past time that this crap goes to the back burner.
The second half .I thought Green Bay was going to blow the win. That doesnt make for the best Super Bowl. Its really bad form to end the game by falling down on the ball for the last two downs. Spike it, throw it away,do something,
The post game show. It was just a mess.the stupid 4 person platform without the players, bad.An owner that was unprepared to talk to the World? At least you can compose a memorable phrase or quote Lombardi. The old days where the team was in the locker room cracking open the champagne were a lot more fun and real. The swarms of people pouring onto the field who really have nothing to do with the game is a chaotic mess and is tasteless.
So from someone who has seen every Super Bowl and remembers a time when there wasn't one, the real charm of it is lost.

And now a strike? Maybe you haven't killed thy golden goose yet but your goose is cooked with me. Arevaderchi Buckoos
Me all be out surfing if my back holds up.One of the memorable problems I got from High School football.
